Excilor is a fungal treatment that is able to actually penetrate the nail. The basis of its attack is that it makes the microenvironment of the nail hostile to fungal growth. The bottle it comes in has an easy to use applicator attached, so it is very low mess low stress. It makes some overstated claims to its effectiveness and length of time for treatment that we are unable to verify. One tube contains enough product for 400 applications according to their product literature. The active ingredient in Excilor is Acetic Acid, the main component in vinegar and not recognized by the FDA for its antifungal properties (link 5).
The listed ingredients are Ethyllactate, Water (7%), Acetic acid, Penetration enhancer, a film-forming agent and preservatives. Excilor makes a point to state that the product contains no parabens. View Ingredient Comparison Chart »
Before using the product, clean the nail and remove all nail polish. Coat the whole nail, including the underside rim, generously twice a day. Allow 1 to 2 minutes to dry before putting socks or shoes on.
It's just vinegar..
Vinegar will help if you soak regularly.. but you can do that without this product which is really just acetic acid. It\'s a convenient excilor pen maybe.. use it to ward off future infections but don\'t waste your time if you\'re fighting off something major like i am. ill post back and let you know what i used.
I get nail fungus infections all the time for whatever reason. I carry this around in my gym bag and use it after i shower every now and then.
Acetic Acid - Vinegar
As the guy below said, ethanoic acid is vinegar. It would be better to just use a vinegar rinse or to use something with manuka oil. however, using this excilor pen applicator thing instead of soaking your feet everynight in a pot of water is a lot more convenient probably for most people but the price could be a lot lower.
Active ingredient is vinegar!!
Look carefully at the ingredients and its is apparent that the active ingredient is acetic acid (ethanoic acid) or simply vinegar. Other ingredients listed simply enable the acetic acid to penetrate and be maintained on the nail. It is simpler and cheaper to soak your feet in vinegar 2X day, which is also a known home remedy!!
Takes forever, works.
Like I said, Takes forever... but it works. Be patient.
